America's Concentration Camps
The image above is a location the U.S. government euphemistically called the Manzanar "Relocation Center." It was in reality a prison, an American concentration camp, and it was where I spent some of the most formative years of my life. I was among the 120,000 Japanese Americans who were forced from their homes at the outbreak of WWII and imprisoned in this and nine other similar camps. We were American citizens imprisoned in America's concentration camps for no other reason than our ancestry.
My book describes the myriad obstacles we faced in seeking to rectify this injustice as a means of protecting against similar constitutional abuses in the future and to give meaning to our wartime experiences.
